An empty folder in VS Code, and a misspelled endmodule
An empty folder now writes its own design file. A student opened an empty lab1 folder in VS Code. Nothing in the window pointed at dewfpga, and the coding agent they asked did not know it, so the student wrote a 10-line .xdc and a 22-line Makefile by hand next to the design. The same design, alone in a folder, builds to a bitstream in 4.6 seconds with no .xdc and no Makefile. Now an empty folder asks one question, Create top.sv. The button writes top.sv (16 switches to 16 LEDs, with the port names that need no pin file listed at the top), opens it under the Run button, and writes the agent notes beside it. A folder with files, a window with two folders, or a "Never" answer gets no question; an existing top.sv is never overwritten. The same action is the command dewfpga: new Basys3 design in this folder (top.sv).
The agent notes start with the one-file path. AGENTS.md used to describe only the folder commands. Its first section now says one .sv is enough, names the automatic ports, and tells the agent never to ask for a Makefile, an .xdc or a build script, and never to install other FPGA tools. The file stays within its 60-line limit.
A misspelled endmodule is named with its line. lab1_top.sv ended in endmodulek. The source scan pairs each module with the next endmodule, so lab1_top dropped out, the two modules it instantiates looked unused, and the CLI said two-tops and suggested full_adder as the top. Now:
lab1_top.sv:27: ERROR [module-without-endmodule]: module lab1_top (lab1_top.sv:21) has no endmodule: line 27 reads endmodulek. Fix: write endmodule on line 27.
With no word like endmodule in the module, the message names the line where the next module starts. Single-file Run now prints the scan's message as it is, and its two-tops fix names dewfpga run <file> --top NAME instead of the folder command.
Tests: three new single-file checks (misspelled, missing, a real two-top file) fail on the installed 1.2.0 and pass now. The scan raised no alarm on any of the 364 .sv/.v files in the repository. The VS Code extension suite passed 41/41; the new checks build the written top.sv with the real chain (32 ports, all pinned automatically). The full suite ran once: 340 passed, 3 failed, 19 known gaps unchanged. The three were closed and rerun: AGENTS.md had grown to 74 lines (limit 60), site/llms.txt lacked the new code, and the Python bytecode the tests left in templates/__pycache__ held this machine's home path (the suite now writes no bytecode). The SystemVerilog probes are as on 8 October: 114 of 148 pass all four stages. Not tried: the button in a real VS Code window and programming the board with this change.
