#16 · Project instructions and a measured repair experiment

dewfpga new now writes AGENTS.md and a one-line CLAUDE.md import into the project. The instructions name actual CLI commands, structured result fields and exit codes, preserve ports and constraints, and reserve board programming for an explicit user request. The generated llms.txt links the guide and error catalog; regeneration and all referenced error pages are checked. The listed suite grows from 327 to 329 checks.

The replacement experiment ran 16 fresh Fable 5.1 sessions, one attempt for each of eight fixtures in each arm. Both arms passed 8/8 repairs and all 130 acceptance checks, including fresh builds, testbench mutations, port interfaces and netlist equivalence. Plain/guided observations were 50/41 tool calls, 516.87/550.92 process seconds, and 0/13 Bash calls containing --json. These numbers do not demonstrate a guidance benefit: the sample is small, two fixtures are CLI auto-repair controls, and most reference testbenches were visible in the input.

Root invalidated the previous batch after finding guidance in a shared ancestor and an explicit read by a plain agent. Its results remain in the repository as invalid. The replacement checked both lexical and resolved ancestors before every call; root found no plain-arm guide or reference access in the transcripts. One guided agent used an outside-project temporary backup of its own source; this protocol deviation is disclosed. The protocol is not a filesystem sandbox. See the full results and limits.

The combined local #15 correction and #16 product sources passed 273/0 with 52 known gaps. The only previously tested files changed afterward are the experiment README and manifest; product source hashes match that run. The experiment's 63 frozen harness files remained unchanged throughout the batch. Remote CI for a80556d passed: clean macOS installation, the full CLI suite, packaged commands, assembled site and Ubuntu browser tests. No physical board acceptance is claimed.
