#11 · Five CLI steps and accurate Homebrew diagnosis
The CLI page now explains the path from Homebrew to a blinking Basys3 in five steps. The guide relies on Homebrew's normal Command Line Tools installation and retains the explicit xcode-select recovery command for a missing developer-tools check. Its top-module explanation now matches the CLI: hierarchy and a uniquely matching XDC can select a design; a file name alone does not silently select it. A design containing $finish is an error, not automatically a testbench. The existing standalone-package limitation is stated.
Both the downloadable installer and install.sh distinguish a missing Homebrew installation, an Apple Silicon installation missing from PATH and an Intel Homebrew installation. They print the relevant next step before downloading the toolchain. An additional root check found that an Intel brew already on PATH bypassed the first implementation: that case now stops before executing it and explains the Apple Silicon path. Tests use executable sentinels to prove that none of those diagnostic branches invokes the discovered Homebrew binary.
The final affected installer, security, static, privacy and documentation-count checks passed 24, failed 0. test/run.sh --list now reports 321 available checks; it is not a count of checks executed by that focused run. Independent review approved the original installer patch; the root's extra Intel-on-PATH cases passed for both entry points.
At 320 pixels, the toolchain table previously widened the page to 384 pixels. It now scrolls inside its own wrapper, and the page stays 320 pixels wide. Chromium checks at 320, 390 and 1366 pixels find all five steps with no page overflow. Wrapping the unchanged desktop table produces 0 pixel differences and identical table geometry in a controlled before/after capture. These are browser measurements, not physical-phone or board tests. The final commit's full CI remains a separate acceptance check.
