tasks.json:1: ERROR [vscode-tasks-unreadable]
The diagnostic contains vscode-tasks-unreadable. File paths, line numbers and the detailed reason depend on the project or editor configuration; read the complete line printed by the command.
Why does it happen?
The writer accepts JSON with comments and trailing commas. Malformed JSON, duplicate object keys, an unsupported ownership-record schema or a non-regular file is refused. Existing user content is preserved.
What is the fix?
Inspect the named file and restore a known-good backup if necessary. Do not delete the ownership record to force adoption: without it, the writer cannot prove that matching tasks belong to it. The print command shows the configuration for a manual merge.
