why is a claude key checked on claude-haiku-4-5?

It is the cheapest Claude model that can run the search tool, and a check call exists to prove the key spends, so lulu setup and lulu doctor spend their single call on it. It is also what a paid command asks when no --model is given.

what is the published rate?

claude-haiku-4-5 ± $1 in and $5 out per million tokens, plus $10 per thousand searches.

Read 2026-08-01 from platform.claude.com/docs/en/about-claude/models/overview and platform.claude.com/docs/en/agents-and-tools/tool-use/web-search-tool. It is read off the table the library bills against, and a test fails if the two differ.

what is a dated snapshot?

The name a response comes back under. claude-haiku-4-5 answers as claude-haiku-4-5-20251001, and the provider's catalogue lists the two as one row at one price. The date is stripped so the answer can be priced, and only the date: what is left has to be a model already in the table, so a snapshot resolves to the model it is a snapshot of and to nothing else.

Without that rule the first call this repository ever billed would have been recorded honestly, as the model that answered it, and then reported as having no published price.

what does a search cost on it?

The same as on every Claude model: one fee per search the model ran, published as a single figure rather than a band, and a search that errors is not billed. The token rates come from the model table and the fee from the web search tool's own page, two pages because Anthropic publishes them apart, and both are recorded so either half can be checked without trusting the line that copied it.

what else does this engine price?

claude-opus-5 ± $5 in and $25 out per million tokens, plus $10 per thousand searches
claude-sonnet-5 ± $3 in and $15 out per million tokens, plus $10 per thousand searches

how does it ask claude? ± every engine and every price
